Religious Education

As the religious educators of young person, the parents are the primary educators.  The catechists provide an atmosphere of warmth and acceptance, with time given to learning through the Youth Formation Program.  Through open discussion, audio visual resources and prayer in a classroom setting, the staff members are the resources from which the above catechesis and sacraments are offered.

When are classes held?

The youth formation classes meet on Monday evenings from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM for children in K through 5th grade, Wednesday evenings from 5:45 PM - 7:30 PM for 6th through 8th grade and on Sunday evenings 6:45 PM to 8:15 PM for 9th through 11th grade.

Where are the classes held?

Youth Formation classes are held in Holy Rosary Catholic School, adjacent to the Our Lady of the Rosary Church campus. The children are to be dropped of in a drive thru process and gather in the cafeteria and are dismissed through the same drive-thru process.

When is registration?

General registration can be dropped off to the parish office. Check the Sunday Bulletin during the month of August for registration details or call the Office of Religious Education, 985.693-3433 ext. 6.

What if I miss registration?

It is NEVER too late to register! However, children who enter the program late are expected to make up work already covered by their class.

What is the registration fee?

Families are asked to help cover the cost of the program by paying $25 per child for the year.

Please note: No family is EVER denied youth formation due to financial difficulties.

Each and every time we celebrate one of the sacrament, we come face to face with the love, forgiveness and compassion of God.  We share in the command of Jesus to forgive one another as God forgives us, we share in that first fellowship meal of Jesus and His friends, and we witness our young people asking to ratify their Baptismal promise.

First Reconciliation and First Communion

Preparation for First Penance and First Eucharist consists of full participation in 1st and 2nd grade OLR Religious Education or Holy Rosary Catholic School.

The celebration of confirmation will be for students in the 11th grade.

This immediate preparation should help create a bond between the young person and the faith community.  Bridge the gap between Catholic Schools and the parish Youth Formation Program, and involve the parents and families in the sacramental preparation and celebration.  The office of religious education provides this opportunity through retreats, special liturgies with family rites, service projects, and penance service.
